Oil Pan: Service and Repair

OIL PAN AND DEFLECTOR

Tools Required:

^ J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture
^ J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg
^ J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter

Remove or Disconnect

1. Remove hood panel.
2. Engine mount strut and air conditioning compressor and engine mount strut bracket.
3. Elecrric engine cooling fan.
4. Install J 28467-A and J 36462.
5. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
6. Front exhaust manifold pipe.
7. Intermediate steering shaft bolt/screw.
8. Drain engine oil.
9. Oil level sensor.
10. Engine splash shield.
11. Suitably support drivetrain and front suspension frame with floor stands.
12. Transaxle mount frame side nuts from drivetrain and suspension frame.
13. Engine mount frame side nuts from drivetrain and front suspension frame.
14. Rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts/screws.
15. Lower drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts/screws.
16. Engine mount.
17. Flywheel. inspection cover.
18. Starter motor.
19. Transaxle mount from oil pan.






20. Side bolts/screws.
21. Retaining bolts/screws.
22. Oil pan and gasket.






23. Oil deflector.

Clean

^ Oil pan and engine block gasket surface.

Install or Connect

Important






Apply a small amount of sealer, GM P/N 1234579 or equivalent, on either side of the rear main bearing cap, where the seal surface on the cap meets the cylinder block.






1. Oil deflector.

Tighten

Nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft.).

2. Gasket and oil pan.






3. Retaining bolts/screws.

Tighten

^ Bolts/screws to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft.).

4. Side bolts/screws using J 39505.

Tighten

^ Bolts/screws to 50 N.m (37 lb. ft.).

5. Transaxle mount to oil pan.
6. Starter motor.
7. Flywheel inspection cover.
8. Engine mount.
9. Raise drivetrain and front suspension frame.
10. Rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts/screws.
11. Engine mount frame side nuts to drivetrain and front suspension frame.
12. Transaxle mount frame side nuts to drivetram and suspension frame.
13. Remove floor stands from drivetrain and front suspension frame.
14. Engine splash shield.
15. level sensor.
16. Intermediate steering shaft bolt/screw.
17. Front exhaust manifold pipe.
18. Lower vehicle.
19. Remove J 28467A and J 36462.
20. Electric engine cooling fan.
21. Engine mount strut and air conditioning compressor, bracket and engine mount strut bracket.
22. Hood panel.
23. Add engine oil.
