PROM- DTC P0137 Set/MIL Illuminated

File in Section: 6E - Engine Fuel & Emission

Bulletin No.: 57-65-27

Date: December, 1995

Subject:
DTC P0137 Set; Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated (New Flash Calibration)

Model:
1996 Buick Regal with 3800 Series II Engine (VIN K - RPO L36)

Condition:
Some owners may comment that the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Service Engine Soon) is illuminated with DTC PO137 set.

Cause:
Current diagnostic parameter for DTC P0137 is too sensitive, causing good O2 sensors to be rejected.

Correction:
Connect a Scan Tool to the vehicle and check for diagnostic trouble codes. If DTC P0137 is current or in history, reflash the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with a new calibration that revises the diagnostic parameters for DTC P0137. Test drive the vehicle afterwards to verify that the condition has been repaired. If DTC P0137 sets after reflashing the PCM, then follow the procedure outlined in the Service Manual to correct the condition. The new flash calibration is available starting with the December CD number 16 from GM Service Technology Group.

Important:
Do not attempt to order the calibration number from GMSPO. The calibrations are programmed into the vehicle's PCM via a TECHLINE Tool device.
