Oil Pan: Service and Repair



OIL PAN

Tools Required

^ J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture
^ J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg
^ J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter

Remove or Disconnect






1. Install J 28467-A and J 36462.
2. Torque strut bolt.
3. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
4. Drain engine oil.
5. Oil drip shield, bolts and shield.
6. Engine mounts.
7. Transaxle mount nuts.
8. Exhaust pipe from manifold.
9. Raise engine using J 28467-A and J 36462.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Place jack-stands under frame at front and rear center crossmembers.
12. Loosen rear frame bolts, do not remove bolt.
13. Front frame bolts and lower front of frame.
14. Front engine mount bracket bolts.
15. Engine mount bracket and mount.
16. Starter.
17. Electrical brackets from oil pan.






18. Oil pan side bolts.
19. Oil pan bottom bolts,
20. Oil pan.

Clean

^ Oil pan flanges.
^ Oil pan rail.
^ Front cover.
^ Rear main bearing cap.
^ Threaded holes.

Install or Connect






1. Apply Ultra Black RTV sealant GM P/N 12345739 (orequivalentt) on the oil pan gasket tabs that insert into the gasket groove of outer surface on the rear main bearing cap.
2. New gasket.
3. Oil pan.
4. Oil pan bottom bolts.






5. Oil pan side bolts.

Tighten

^ Oil pan sine bolts/screws to main caps 50 Nm (37 lb. ft.) using J 39505.
^ Oil pan bottom bolts/screws to 25 Nm (18 lb. ft.).

6. Electrical brackets to oil pan.
7. Starter.

Tighten

^ Starter bolts/screws to 27 Nm (20 lb. ft.).

8. Engine mount bracket and mount.
9. Front engine mount bracket bolts.

Tighten

^ Bracket bolts to engine 100 Nm (74 lb. ft.).
^ Bracket bolts to oil pan 58 Nm (43 lb. ft.).

10. Raise frame to proper position using new frame bolts.
11. Remove jack-stands.
12. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
13. Lower engine to correct position using J 28467A and J 36462.
14. Exhaust pipe to manifold.
15. Transaxle mount nuts.
16. Engine mounts.
17. Oil drip shield and bolts.

Tighten

^ Drip shield bolts/screws to 10 Nm (89 lb. in.).

18. Lower vehicle.
19. Fill crankcase with new engine oil.
20. Torque strut bolt.
21. Remove J 28467-A and J 36462.

Inspect

^ Proper fluid levels.
^ For leaks.
