MODULE LOWER CASE

Air Distributor Assembly - (Buick):




Module Lower Case:






NOTE: The module lower case must be removed from the module assembly to gain access to the evaporator and heater core.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Right-hand instrument panel sound insulator.
2. Right-hand carpet retainer.
3. Instrument panel lower trim plate.
4. Instrument panel upper trim pad.
5. Bolts/screws (58).
6. Pull right lower corner of instrument panel away from dash [approximately 25 mm (1 inch)] and support.
7. Vacuum harness connectors at module lower case (62).
A. Disconnect both connectors, then remove connector halves from module lower case.
B. Position vacuum hamesses out of the way.
8. Roll floor carpet assembly back to provide access to forward lower area of module assembly (57).
9. Module lower case bolts/screws (61).
^ There are seven bolts/screws (61) attaching the flange of the module lower case to the rest of the shell of the module assembly.
^ The bolt/screw (61) near the center of the flange next to the cowl panel (the forward flange) may be difficult to locate. The bolt/ screw head is straight down from the vacuum tank and almost directly below the lower righthand heater core tube. The bolt/screw can be reached for removal or installation with a 7 mm socket attached to a universal joint adapter and a short extension to a ratchet handle.
10. Module lower case (62).

CLEAN
^ Original sealer from mating surfaces of exposed flanges.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New sealer to case mounting flanges.
2. Module lower case (62).
^ Guide module lower case (62) into place, taking care to avoid scraping away any sealer from flanges.
3. Module lower case bolts/screws (61).
A. Install at least two bolts/screws (61) while holding case in position. Tighten both bolts/ screws finger-tight.
B. Install remaining bolts/screws (61) finger- tight.
C. Tighten all seven bolts/screws (61) evenly to compress flange sealer.

TIGHTEN
^ Bolts/screws (61) to 1.9 Nm (17 lb. in.).

4. Fit floor carpet assembly in place under module assembly (57) and against cowl panel.
5. Vacuum harness connectors.
A. Connect both connector halves.
B. Install assembled connectors to case.
6. Instrument panel support and position instrument panel assembly to dash.
7. Bolts/screws (58).

TIGHTEN
^ Bolts/screws (58) to 10 Nm (89 lb. in.).

9. Instrument panel upper trim pad.
10. Instrument panel lower trim plate assembly.
11. Right-hand carpet retainer.
12. Instrument panel lower reinforcement and right-hand instrument panel sound insulator.
