Troubleshooting Hints

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS:

Radio Inoperative:
1. Check I/P Fuse 30. If open, check CKT 640 for a short to ground.
2. Check I/P Fuse 9. If open, check CKT 43 for a short to ground.
3. Check that G202 is clean and tight.

Radio Noise:
1. Test the Radio outside with the hood down.
2. Ignition noise on FM indicates a possible defective High Energy Ignition (HEI) System. Refer to Starting And Charging. Starting and Charging
3. If a test antenna is used, ground the base of the antenna to the vehicle body.
4. When shielding components, use aluminum foil tape and ground both ends of the shield.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for Proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems refer Diagnostic Aids. Diagnostic Aids
^ Refer to System Diagnosis. Initial System Diagnosis
