Antilock Braking System (ABS)
DTC 71 EBCM Internal Malfunction (EBCM Fault):
DTC 71 EBCM Internal Malfunction (EBCM Fault):
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The EBCM has self diagnostics that can detect an internal malfunction within the module. The EBCM also monitors its supply voltage and the integrity of the EBCM harness connection. When a malfunction is detected for any of these conditions DTC 71 is set.
ACTION TAKEN
If a malfunction is detected which causes a EBCM DTC 71 to set, antilock braking is disabled and the EBCM turns "ON" the ABS warning lamp for the remainder of the ignition cycle. If the malfunction is intermittent, the EBCM will enable the system at the next ignition cycle and a history DTC 71 will be present.
DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks for additional malfunctions which may be causing DTC 71 to set.
2. Checks the integrity of the EBCM ground circuit.
3. Checks for the minimum supply voltage necessary for proper ABS operation.
4. Checks for intermittent connections of the EBCM harness connector and terminals to the EBCM.
