Timing Cover: Service and Repair

ENGINE FRONT COVER

Engine Front Cover Assembly:

TOOL REQUIRED:
^ J 39087 Driven Gear Shaft Front Cover Seal Protector.
^ J 39937 Distributor Driveshaft Front Cover Seal Installer.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Water pump assembly. Service and Repair
2. Crankshaft balancer assembly and hub. Service and Repair
3. Distributor.
4. Oil pan. Service and Repair
5. Engine front cover bolts/screws (52).
6. Engine front cover assembly (50) and gasket (51).
7. Distributor driveshaft seal from engine front cover (50).
- Pry out with flat blade tool.

CLEAN
^ Engine front cover and engine block gasket surfaces.

INSPECT
^ Engine front cover assembly (50) for damage to the seals or gasket surface.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the seal when installing the engine front cover assembly over the water pump driveshaft assembly.

1. New distributor deiveshaft seal to engine front cover (50) using J 39937.
2. Gasket (51) and engine front cover assembly (50) using J 39087 on water pump driveshaft assembly.
3. Engine front cover bolts/screws (52).

TIGHTEN
^ Engine front cover bolts/screws (52) to 11 Nm (100 lb. in.).

4. Oil pan.
5. Distributor.
6. Crankshaft balancer assembly and hub.

IMPORTANT: Crankshaft balancer and hub must be oriented correctly on crankshaft or an engine vibration may result.

7. Water pump assembly.
