Remove & Replace
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement:
NOTICE: Do not handle the fuel sender by the fuel tubes. Due to the length of the tubes, the amount of leverage generated by handling the tubes could damage the solder joints.
Important
^ Always replace fuel sender 0-rings when reinstalling fuel sender assembly.
Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure (see "Fuel System Pressure Relief").
3. Drain fuel tank (see "Draining Fuel Tank").
4. Fuel tank (see Fuel Tank Replacement").
5. Using tool J 35731, remove fuel sender assembly retaining cam, fuel sender assembly and O-ring from fuel tank. Discard fuel sender assembly O-ring.
Install or Connect
Note: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the fuel pump strainer when installing the fuel sender assembly as this will restrict fuel flow. Also, assure that the fuel pump strainer does not block full travel of float arm.
1. Install fuel sender assembly.
2. Fuel tank (see "Fuel Tank Replacement").
3. Add fuel and install fuel filler cap.
4. Negative battery cable.
Inspect
^ Turn ignition switch to "ON," position for two seconds, then turn to OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position, and check for fuel leaks.
