Chart C-16B Low Oil Level Sensor

Chart C16-B:

Low Oil Level Lamp:

System Description:
As illustrated above, the oil level sensor supplies ground to the PCM. When the oil level is low (about 2.25 quarts full) the sensor switch will open. When the oil level is correct, the sensor output will be grounded. Therefore, failure of the wire connection between the sensor and the PCM would cause the PCM to falsely sense the oil level is low. In this case, the PCM would always turn "ON" the low oil level indicator regardless of actual oil level. Since the PCM would no longer have any indication of true oil level, the driver would have to rely strictly on the dipstick for true engine oil level.

Diagnostic Aids: An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, chaffed wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Prolonged exposure to contaminated engine oil could eventually cause the sensor to fail (open).
