DTC 53 - Battery Voltage Error:

Ignition Feed Wiring Circuit:

Circuit Description:
DTC 53 will set when the ignition is "ON" and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) terminal "BD16" voltage is more than 17.1 volts for about .2 second, or less than 10 volts for 240 seconds.

During the time the failure is present, all PCM outputs will be disabled. (The setting of additional diagnostic trouble codes may result.)

DTC 53 Will Set When:
^ Battery voltage is greater than 17.1 volts for about .2 second.
OR
^ Battery voltage is less than 10 volts for 240 seconds.

Action Taken (PCM will default to): The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate, PCM outputs will be disabled, and the cooling fan will disable.

DTC Chart Test Description: Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.

1. Normal battery output is between 10 - 17.0 volts.
2. Checks to see if generator is faulty under load condition. If the voltage is above 17.1 volts, refer to "Starting and Charging" system.

Note on Intermittents: Charging the battery and then starting the engine, may set DTC 53. If DTC sets when an accessory is operated, check for poor connections or excessive current draw. Also, check for poor connections at starter solenoid or fusible link junction box.
