Oil Pan: Service and Repair






Tools Required:
J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture
J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg

Remove or Disconnect

1. Air cleaner.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Serpentine belt.
4. Support engine using J 28467-A and J 36462.
5. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
6. Drain engine oil.
7. Right tire and wheel assembly.
8. Right splash shield.

CAUTION: Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

9. Steering gear pinch bolt.
10. Transaxle mount retaining nuts.
11. Engine to frame mount retaining nuts.
12. Front engine mount bracket bolts and bracket from block.
13. Outboard flywheel/starter plastic shield.
14. Inboard flywheel metal shield.
15. Starter and hang from body.
16. Place jackstands under frame at front and rear center crossmembers.
17. Loosen rear frame bolts - DO NOT REMOVE.
18. Front frame bolts and lower front of frame.
19. Secondary air injection pipe retaining nut from oil pan stud, if equipped.
20. Oil pan retaining bolts.
21. Oil pan retaining nuts.
22. Oil pan and gasket.

Clean
^ Oil pan flanges.
^ Oil pan rail.
^ Front cover.
^ Rear main bearing cap.
^ Threaded holes.

Install or Connect

1. Apply Ultra Black RTV sealant GM P/N 12345739 (or equivalent) on the oil pan gasket tabs that insert into the gasket groove of the outer surface on the rear main bearing cap.
2. New gasket.
3. Oil pan.
4. Oil pan retaining nuts.

Tighten
^ Nuts to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.).

5. Oil pan retaining bolts.

Tighten
^ Rear bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft.).

Tighten
^ Remaining bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.).

6. Secondary air injection pipe retaining nut to oil pan stud, if equipped.
7. New frame to body bolts.
8. Remove jackstands.
9. Starter.
10. Inboard flywheel metal shield.
11. Outboard flywheel/starter plastic shield.
12. Front engine mount bracket to block.
13. Engine bracket to block bolts.
14. Engine to frame mount retaining nuts.
15. Transaxle mount retaining nuts.

CAUTION: When installing the intermediate shaft make sure the shaft is seated prior to pinch bolt installation. If the pinch bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage.

16. Steering gear pinch bolt.
17. Right splash shield.
18. Right tire and wheel assembly.
19. Lower vehicle.
20. Remove J 28467-A and J 36462.
21. Serpentine belt.
22. Fill with new engine oil.
23. Negative battery cable.

Tighten
^ Bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb. ft.).

24. Air cleaner.

Inspect
^ Proper fluid levels.
^ For leaks.
