Removal

Figure 2 Cylinder Head:






NOTES
^ Before removing the cylinder head(s) from the engine and before disassembling the valve mechanism, perform a compression test and note the results.
^ During disassembly, be sure that the valve train components are kept together and identified so that they can be installed in their original locations

REMOVAL
1. Intake manifold and gasket. Refer to Intake Manifold / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Remove exhaust pipe at rear exhaust manifold then lower vehicle.
4. Remove exhaust crossover pipe nuts to right exhaust manifold.
5. Rotate engine forward.
6. Remove secondary air injection pipe, if equipped.
7. Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Connector Locations
8. Remove cylinder head bolts.
9. Remove cylinder head and gasket.

CLEAN
^ Gasket surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block and the intake manifold.
^ Cylinder block bolt threads.
^ Cylinder head bolts.
