Rocker Arm Cover - Right
Roker Arm Cover:
Remove or Disconnect
1. Air cleaner assembly.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Drain coolant. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
4. Rotate engine forward.
5. Vacuum hoses at plenum.
6. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube at crossover pipe.
7. Ignition wire guide.
8. Ignition wire harness at plenum and at plugs.
9. Coolant hoses at throttle body. Refer to Locations / Components / Coolant Hoses. Locations
10. Necessary electrical wiring from plenum. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Connector Locations
11. Throttle, T.V., and cruise cables. Refer to Components / Accelerator Controls, Engine Compartment under Throttle Cable/Linkage. Locations
12. Bracket at right side of plenum.
13. Secondary air injection pump assembly and support aside, if equipped.
14. Generator and bracket and support aside.
15. PCV valve from valve cover.
16. Valve rocker arm cover bolts and cover.
NOTE If cover adheres to cylinder head, remove by bumping end of rocker arm cover with palm of hand or soft rubber mallet.
17. Valve rocker arm cover gasket.
18. Clean sealing surface on cylinder head and valve cover with degreaser.
Install or Connect
1. New gasket and new bolt grommets.
NOTEMake sure gasket is seated properly in valve cover groove.
2. Ultra Black RTV sealer GM P/N 12345739 (or equivalent) in notch.
3. Valve rocker arm cover and bolts. Tighten bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb. in.).
4. PCV valve to valve rocker arm cover.
5. Generator and bracket.
^ Torque generator brace bolt ( to generator ) and generator upper attaching bolt to 25 Nm ( 18 ft. lb. )
^ Torque generator brace bolt ( to engine ) and generator lower attaching bolt to 47 Nm ( 35 ft. lb. )
6. Secondary air injection pump assembly, if equipped.
7. Bracket at right side of plenum.
8. Throttle, T.V., and cruise cables. Refer to Components / Accelerator Controls, Engine Compartment under Throttle Cable/Linkage. Locations
9. Necessary electrical wiring to plenum. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Connector Locations
10. Coolant hoses to throttle body. Refer to Locations / Components / Coolant Hoses. Locations
11. Ignition wire harness.
12. Ignition wire guide.
13. EGR tube at crossover pipe.
14. Vacuum hoses to plenum.
15. Rotate engine back.
16. Negative battery cable and tighten bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).Refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction / Service and Repair / Idle Learn Procedure. Service and Repair
17. Air cleaner assembly.
18. Fill with coolant. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
12. Inspect for proper fluid levels and for oil leaks.
