DTC 32

Digital EGR Valve Solenoid Circuit Diagram:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The EGR valve consists of three solenoid operated pintle valves that open when energized. Each valve opens a different size orifice, creating seven different possible rates of flow. The solenoids get battery power when the ignition is turned "ON", and become energized when the PCM completes the circuit to ground.

Code 32 designates an EGR flow test failure. During closed throttle deceleration, the PCM cycles each solenoid "ON" and "OFF" while monitoring other sensor signals, looking for a resulting change in engine rpm and oxygen sensor activity. If no change is detected, Code 32 is set.

TEST DESCRIPTION

Code 32 Diagnostic Chart:

Numbers below refer to circled numbers on diagnostic chart.
1. Checks for grounded circuits 607, 608, and 699. Test light should be "OFF". Light "ON" indicates short to ground in that circuit or faulty PCM.
2. Checks for open circuit in EGR wiring. With ignition "ON", and diagnostic terminal grounded, test light should be "ON". Light "OFF" indicates open in that circuit.
3. Determines if grounded circuit is caused by short to ground in circuits 697, 698, and/or 699, or due to faulty PCM.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:

^ Poor Connection or Damaged Harness. Inspect PCM harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wire connection, and damaged harness.

^ Intermittent Test. If connections and harness check OK, monitor circuit voltage with "SCAN" tool, while moving related connectors and wiring harness. If the failure is induced, the display will change. This may help to isolate the location of the malfunction.
