Thermostat: Service and Repair

1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On all models, disconnect battery negative cable.
3. If necessary, remove air cleaner assembly.
4. With engine cool, drain engine coolant below thermostat level.
5. Disconnect radiator hose from thermostat housing.
6. Remove thermostat housing retaining bolts, then the housing, gasket and thermostat.
7. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Ensure thermostat gasket sealing surface is clean.
b. Install thermostat with new gasket.
c. Tighten thermostat housing retaining bolts to specifications.
d. Refill and bleed cooling system as needed.
8. Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
