Fuel Pressure Check

CAUTION:

To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury:
1. It is necessary to relieve fuel system pressure before disconnecting fuel lines.
2. A small amount of fuel may be released when disconnecting the fuel lines. Cover the fuel lines with a shop towel to catch any fuel leaking out. Place the towel in an approved container once the lines are disconnected.
3. DO NOT pinch or restrict nylon fuel lines to avoid severing. If nylon fuel lines become kinked, and cannot be straightened, they must be replaced.
4. Wear safety glasses at all times.

FUEL PRESSURE TESTING:

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Loosen fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. (DO NOT tighten at this time.)
3. Locate engine compartment fuel return line quick connect fitting.
4. Grasp both ends of the fitting, and twist the female end 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt in the fitting.
5. Using compressed air, blow the dirt out of the quick-connect fitting.
6. Choose the correct tool from separator tool set (J37088 or equivalent). Insert the tool into the female end of the connector, then push inward to release the male connector.
7. Connect the gauge quick-connect adapters (J29658-89 or equivalent) to the fuel pressure gauge (J29658-B or equivalent).
8. Lubricate the male tube end of the fuel line and the gauge adaptor with engine oil.
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury: Before connecting the fuel line quick-connect fittings, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. During normal operation, the O-rings located inside the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.
9. Connect the fuel pressure gauge, and adapter if necessary.
a. Push connectors together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place.
b. Once installed, pull on both ends of each connection to ensure that they are secure.
10. Connect the negative battery terminal and check fuel pressure.
11. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and fuel pressure gauge.
12. Lubricate the male end of the fuel line, and reconnect quick-connect fitting. Repeat step number 9a and 9b.
13. Tighten fuel filler cap and connect the negative battery terminal.
14. Cycle the ignition switch twice, waiting ten seconds between cycles. Check for fuel leaks.
