Case Side Cover and Gaskets

CASE SIDE COVER AND GASKETS 4T60 (440-T4)

Case Side Cover Pump And Valve Body:

TOOLS REQUIRED:
^ J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture
^ J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
^ J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Air cleaner assembly.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Install J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
4. Torque struts at engine mounts.
5. Crossover pipe.
6. Two bolts at top of transaxle mount bracket. Refer to "Transaxle Bracket".
7. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
8. Left front tire and wheel assembly.
9. Left front brake caliper and bracket.
10. Four bolts at hub and bearing assembly.
11. Left drive axle.
12. Left lower ball joint.
13. Left inner fender splash shield.

CAUTION: Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage may cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

14. Pinch bolt at intermediate steering shaft.
15. Support right and left sides of frame with jackstands.
16. Right frame to body bolts.
17. Left frame to body bolts, and adjust jackstand to lower left side of frame.
18. Transaxle mount and mount support. Refer to "Transaxle Mount".
19. Lower the left side of engine/transaxle using J 28467-A.
20. Two clamps holding wiring harness to transaxle mount bracket.
21. Transaxle mount bracket.
22. Position drain pan under transaxle.
23. Case side cover pan and gasket.

CLEAN
^ Case and side cover gasket surfaces.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Case side cover pan and gasket.
2. Case side cover bolts and channel plate flange nuts.

TIGHTEN
^ Bolts/screws and nuts to 11 Nm (97 lb. in.).

3. Transaxle mount bracket (start upper bolts first). Refer to "Transaxle Bracket".
4. Two wiring harness clamps.
5. Raise left side of engine/transaxle using J 28467-A.
6. Transaxle mount and mount support. Refer to "Transaxle Mount".
7. Raise left side of frame and install four new frame-to-body bolts.
8. Remove jackstands.

CAUTION: When installing the intermediate shaft make sure the shaft is seated prior to pinch bolt installation. If the pinch bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage.

9. Pinch bolt at intermediate steering shaft.
10. Left inner fender splash shield.
11. Left lower ball joint.
12. Left drive axle.
13. Four bolts at hub and bearing assembly.
14. Left front brake caliper and bracket.
15. Left front tire and wheel assembly.
16. Lower vehicle.
17. Two bolts at top of transaxle mount bracket. Refer to "Transaxle Support Assembly (Bracket)".

TIGHTEN
^ Bolts to 83 Nm (61 lb. ft.).

18. Crossover pipe.
19. Torque struts at engine mounts.
20. Remove J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
21. Negative battery cable.
22. Air cleaner assembly.

ADJUST
^ Fluid level.

INSPECT
^ For proper completion of repairs.
^ For proper fluid level.
^ For fluid leaks.
