Inspection
1. Inspect pressure regulator assembly and converter clutch apply valve assembly for chips, plugged oil passages, freedom of movement in bore and burrs. Remove burrs with a suitable microfine lapping compound, 900 grit or finer.
2. Inspect pressure relief assembly for damage or distortion.
3. Inspect pump cover and pump body for worn or damaged bushing, foreign material or debris, scored or irregular mating surfaces, cross channel leaks and ring groove damage.
4. Inspect rotor and slide for cracks.
5. Inspect oil seal assembly for damage or wear.
6. Clean and air dry all components. Do not wipe dry with a cloth.
7. If oil pump slide or rotor are damaged and in need or replacement, proceed as follows:
a. Using a one-inch micrometer, measure thickness of pump rotor and slide. Take measurements on flat undamaged surfaces.
b. Using measurements obtained, for service replacement parts. Replacement parts will provide the same clearance as the original oil pump assembly.
c. Using a fine oil stone, remove any burrs on the replacement rotor and slide, then measure parts with a Vernier micrometer to assure proper thickness.
