Overrun Clutch & Overdrive Carrier Assembly






1. Remove snap ring, turbine shaft, overdrive assembly and overdrive sun gear.
2. Remove snap ring, overrun clutch backing plate and clutch plates.
3. Remove snap ring, overdrive roller clutch cam assembly, roller assembly, retainer and waved spring, overrun piston and inner and outer piston seals.
4. Inspect clutch plates for damaged tangs, wear, heat damage or delamination.
5. Inspect roller clutch cam for damaged or missing rollers and damaged or missing energizing springs.
6. Inspect retainer for distortion or damage.
7. Inspect overrun clutch piston for cracks or damage.
8. Inspect overrun clutch housing for cracks, open oil passages and worn or damaged snap ring grooves.
9. Install inner and outer piston seals with seal lips facing away from clutch apply ring. Lubricate with Transjel.
10. Install seal protector J-29335 or equivalent, then the overrun clutch piston using universal seal installer J-26744-A or equivalent while pushing down on piston.
11. Remove seal protector and installer, then install waved spring and spring retainer with cupped face down.
12. Assemble roller assembly onto roller clutch cam with locator tangs sitting on clutch cam.
13. Install roller clutch assembly, then the snap ring, first compressing retainer.
14. Lubricate clutch plates with transmission fluid, then install clutch plates starting with a steel plate and alternating compositions and steels.
15. Install backing plate with chamfered side up.
16. Install snap ring, then ensure composition plates rotate freely.
