Wiring Diagram for Code E016 - System Voltage Out of Range:

CODE E016 - SYSTEM VOLTAGE OUT OF RANGE

Circuit Description:

The ECM monitors system voltage (battery voltage) at terminal "C-16". If that voltage drops below 1 volt or increases to above 16 volts for over 200 milliseconds a Code E016 will be set.

While a Code E016 is stored, all solenoids are disengaged to prevent damage to the ECM.

Test Description: The following numbered steps correspond with the step numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. If ED10 displays within the 1 volt to 16 volt range, the Code E016 was intermittent.

2. A voltage reading at battery above 16 volts, with engine running at 2000 RPM would indicate a charging system malfunction.

Diagnostic Aids:

An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation.

Check For:

a. Poor Connection or Damaged Harness - Inspect ECM harness connectors for backed out terminal "C16", improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wire connection and damaged harness.

b. Intermittent Test - If connections and harness checks out ok, monitor ED10 (Battery Voltage) display while moving related connectors. If the failure is induced, the "Battery Voltage" will abruptly change. This will help to isolate the location of the malfunction. An engine stall while manipulating the harness indicates that the ECM has lost voltage at terminal "C16". Check for loose connectors in circuits 480 and 2.
