3.8L TURBO SFI V6 ENGINE EMISSIONS

MODELS AFFECTED:
1987 REGAL EQUIPPED WITH 3.8L TURBO SFI
ENGINE (VIN CODE 7) AND FEDERAL EMISSIONS
LESS REGAL GNX MODEL (RPOT2L)

NOTE:
THE FIRST PAGE OF THIS TSB HAS BEEN REVISED TO CHANGE INVOLVED VEHICLES TO NOTE THAT REGAL GNX IS NOT INVOLVED.

CONDITION

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) testing has shown that some 1987 Buick Regal models equipped with RPO LC2 3.8L SFI Turbocharged engine (VIN Code 7) and Federal Emissions may be emitting pollutants in excess of the Federal Emission Standards. This condition could cause a vehicle to fail an emission test, if required under state or local law.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 1987 Regal model vehicles with LC2 (7) 3.8L Turbo engine with Federal Emissions (RPO NA5) within the following VIN breakpoints:

NOTICE:
California Emission vehicles are not involved.

All vehicles listed on the dealer printout will require correction. Should a question arise concerning the involvement of a specific vehicle(s) in this campaign, option codes may be read from the Service Parts Identification Label. Also dealers should access the Vehicle Information Service System (V.I.S.S.) for verification.

DEALER ACTION

Dealers are to replace the PROM assembly in the Electronic Control Module (ECM) on vehicles involved, per the Service Procedure Section of this bulletin.
