SUBJECT: A.I.R. CHECK VALVE
MODELS AFFECTED: SOME 1986 REGALS, LESABRE ESTATE WAGONS AND ELECTRA ESTATE WAGONS EQUIPPED WITH A 5.0L ENGINE (VIN CODE Y)
Some 1986 models equipped with a 5.0L V-8 engine (VIN Code Y), were inadvertently manufactured with a zinc dichromate plated (gold colored) air injection reaction (A.I.R.) check valves instead of stainless steel (silver colored) valves.
Although the two valves function identically, the zinc dichromate (gold colored) valve may experience premature corrosion and fail within the 5 year/50,000 mile emission components defect warranty.
If this condition is encountered, the stainless steel (silver colored) check valve, Part Number 22040903, should be installed in place of the zinc dichromate (gold colored) valves.
