This erroneous display of about 3,500 miles until the next service is due can also be seen in the Control Display.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves early Model Year 2003 E65 and E66 vehicles which were produced before September 17, 2002.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
CORRECTION
Reset the CBS data on brake pad wear using DISplus or GT1 prior to retail delivery. This incorrect brake pad wear calculation cannot be reset using the Instrument Cluster.
The CBS reset procedure is found under: Diagnosis (Select 7'_B65) - Function Selection - Service Functions - Maintenance - CBS Reset - Test Plan and press the bottom right comer Green Arrow to the right. Note: Do not perform Short Test.
The first vital step of the reset procedure is to verify the DISplus or GT1 correct date and time: "Are the current date and time correct?" This is important for time and distance based service items which are managed by the Instrument Cluster, because the internal vehicle trip odometer and vehicle data will be synchronized with the internal Tester data. Confirm by either pressing Yes or No (if required, correct date and time in Main Menu - Administration - DIS - Date/Time). Then select the bottom right corner Green Arrow to the right.
1. Choose CBS Reset (Selection 1) and press the bottom right comer Green Arrow to the right.
2. Reset Front Brakes (Selection 3) and press the bottom right comer Green Arrow to the right. Confirm the selection by answering "Do you really wish to reset?" with Yes and press the bottom right corner Green Arrow to the right.
3. Reset Rear Brakes (Selection 4) and press the bottom right comer Green Arrow to the right. Confirm the selection by answering "Do you really wish to reset?" with Yes and press the bottom right comer Green Arrow to the right.
4. Choose Return to CBS (Selection 6) and press the bottom right comer Green Arrow to the right.
5. Choose End (Selection 3) and press the bottom right comer Green Arrow to the right.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 343. Afier the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-205) and:
a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 343 printed on the label
and,
c. affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.

Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via Campaign Entry.
