Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair


Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Or Right Catalytic Converter

Remove and install complete exhaust system, refer to Exhaust Systems.

Warning:
Scalding hazard!
Only perform these tasks after exhaust system has cooled down.






Measure length (D) of pipe section on new catalytic converter.
Transfer determined length (D) to removed catalytic converter.





Cut through and deburr exhaust pipe at determined point between catalytic converter and center muffler with special tool 00 2 210.





The apertures on the new catalytic converter are sealed with adhesive film.
Completely remove adhesive film from new catalytic converter.
Make sure there are no foreign bodies in catalytic converter.





Connect new catalytic converter and center muffler using clamping sleeves.

Installation:
Nuts point downwards.
Align clamping sleeves so that:
^ separation point is in middle of clamping sleeve,
and
^ there is sufficient spacing to adjoining components.

Note:
Do not clean oxygen and monitor sensors and do not bring into contact with lubricant.
Protect oxygen and monitor sensors when applying underbody protection.





Unscrew oxygen and monitor sensor from old catalytic converter.
If necessary, replace oxygen and monitor sensor.
Tightening Torque, refer to Specifications, Mechanical.
Coat thread with grease for oxygen sensor.
Screw oxygen and monitor sensor onto new catalytic converter.
