SUBJECT
Oil Level Sensor Leak

MODEL
E65 745i with N62 engine

SITUATION
The engine oil level sensor located in the lower oil pan may leak oil from the seal.

CAUSE
The oil level sensor seal is not sealing properly.

CORRECTION
If an oil leak is verified coming from the oil level sensor, seal part number 12 61 1 744 292 must be replaced as outlined in the E65 repair manual, group 12 section 12 61 285.

Important installation note:
A torque wrench must be used when tightening the oil level sensor hold down nuts to avoid reoccurring leaks and/or sensor damage due to incorrect tightening torque.

Torque procedure for oil level sensor:

Initial/joining torque = 2 Nm (1.5 ft.lb.)

Final torque = 8.5 Nm (6.3 ft.lb.)
