Interior - Rear Window Sunblind Inoperative When Cold

SI B 51 07 02
Body Equipment

December 2002
Service Engineering

SUBJECT
Roller Sunblind Does Not Operate at Very Cold Temperatures

MODEL
E65/E66 7 Series

SITUATION
Some owners of E65/E66 vehicles may complain that the roller sunblind for the rear window does not operate at temperatures below approximately -20°C (-4°F).

CAUSE
The programming of the IHKA control unit was designed to not allow operation of the roller sunbund at very cold temperatures, in order to prevent damage to the fabric and the mechanism. The customer should be advised that this is normal.

Vehicles produced prior to 9/02 were programmed to prevent operation of the sunbund at temperatures lower than -20°C (-4°F)

Subsequent testing has shown that the roller sunblind is not adversely affected in temperatures down to -30°C (-22°F). Cars produced from 9/02 on are programmed to allow operation of the roller sunblind down to -30°C.

PROCEDURE
In case of a customer complaint on a vehicle produced prior to 9/02, updating the complete vehicle per SI B09 05 01 using CIP 4.2 or higher will set the IHKA to the lower temperature
