Service Engineering
PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS AND PRIOR TO RETAIL DELIVERY.
Vehicles affected by this Service Action are also affected by Recall campaign 02V-150 (Reprogram Fuel Pump) described in Service Information Bulletin B6 05 02. Time should be scheduled accordingly to perform both repairs during the same visit.
SUBJECT
Service Action to Modify Mounting Bracket of Right Rear Brake Pad Wear Sensor
MODEL
E65 745i and B66 745Li
SITUATION
The cable for the right rear brake pad wear sensor may rub against the brake hose sheath. Over time, this may damage the brake pad wear sensor cable insulation. When the sensor cable insulation is damaged, the brake pad wear indicator can be triggered prematurely.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves the new 7 Series (E65 & E66) vehicles produced from start of production to January 14, 2002.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the Dealer Communication System (DCS). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
CORRECTION
The alignment of the right rear brake pad wear sensor cable mounting bracket must be modified. Remove the right rear wheel per Repair Instructions, section 36 10 300.
^ Unclip the brake pad wear sensor cable from the mounting bracket.
^ Bend the holder eye of the mounting bracket by approximately 90° downward using a suitable tool such as a pair of pliers.
^ Ensure corrosion protection of the mounting bracket. Touch-up any exposed area as necessary.
^ Reinstall any removed parts.
Note:
The brake pad wear sensor may only be replaced if the cable insulation has already worn out.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 338. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-190) and:
a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 338 printed on the label (2) and,
c. affix the label to the B-pillar as shown
Note:
If this Service Action is being carried out at the same time as a Recall or other Service Action, please maximize the use of each service action label by punching out the number(s) of all campaigns being performed on the same label. This will keep the "B-pillar" as neat and uncluttered as possible.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via Campaign Entry.
