SUBJECT
MOST Bus Component(s) Inoperative
MODEL
E65, E66 (7 Series) produced up to March 2002
SITUATION
Various components on the MOST bus may be intermittently or permanently inoperative. Water droplets or traces of water intrusion may be found in one or both of the side areas of the trunk, behind the side trim panels.
CAUSE
Water may enter the side compartments of the trunk from the area of the trunk hinges.
CORRECTION
A drip tray and drain tube can be fitted to each of the side areas of the trunk to allow any water droplets that enter the trunk to drain out through the air extractors. These trays have been installed in production from March 2002.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the left and right side trim panels from inside the luggage compartment per repair instructions RA 51 47 151 and RA 51 47 161.
2. Remove the rear bumper cover per repair instruction RA 51 12 156.
3. To install the right side drain, begin by unclipping the right side air extractor from the outside of the vehicle and then remove it from inside the trunk.
4. Using a 7 mm drill bit, drill a hole in the air extractor in the location noted by the arrow. The hole should be drilled vertically from the outside of the extractor to the inside.
5. Re-install the air extractor.
6. Cut the drain tube (PN 61 21 1 377 745) into 2 equal length sections.
7. Secure one end of a drain tube to the bottom of the right side tray (PN 51 71 7 115 226) and fit a connector (PN 61 21 1 377 835) to the opposite end of the drain tube.
8. Fit the tray into position under the trunk hinge.
9. Secure the tray into this position with a nut (1)(PN 51 16 1 943 122) and a wire tie (2).
10. Route the drain tube behind the wiring harness, down to the air extractor, and secure the connector to the hole previously drilled in the air extractor.
11. Repeat steps 3 - 8 for the left side of the trunk using the left side tray (PN 51 71 7 115 225).
12. Secure the front part of the tray to the side of the trunk using the existing fastener which is used to secure the navigation computer bracket.
13. Install a body nut (PN 61 13 1 372 033) to the hole in the top rear part of the navigation computer bracket and secure the rear of the drip tray to this nut using a bolt (PN 07 11 9 902 007).
14. On some models, a bracket (PN 51 71 7 115 392), clip nut (PN 51 71 7 030 849), and bolt (PN 07 11 9 915 060) may also be needed to properly secure the tray to the bracket.
15. Route the drain tube down to the air extractor and secure the connector to the hole previously drilled in the air extractor.
16. Re-install any previously removed parts.
