Replacing Alternator

Removing And Installing/Replacing Alternator (M73)

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery.
Switch off ignition.
Disconnect battery negative lead.







Remove alternator drive belt.
Remove fan cowl.
Remove complete left intake filter housing.







Unfasten bracket for radiator hose.







Loosen hose clamp.
Remove cooling air hose.


NOTE: Shown here from the car's underside.







Unfasten cable connector.







Unfasten screws (1 to 3). Remove complete tensioning roller for ribbed vee belt.







Unfasten screws (1 to 3).







Pull out alternator towards front.







Disconnect alternator connections.







Connections illustrated here on removed alternator.
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Unscrew nut (2).







Pull alternator upwards to remove.


CAUTION!
Do not damage cooling fins!







Replace alternator pulley.
Unfasten nut with special tool 12 7 110, bracing alternator shaft with Allen key or multi-tooth socket wrench.
