Torque Converter: Service and Repair

Removing and installing or replacing torque converter (A5S 440Z)
Remove transmission.





Screw special tool 24 4 000 into the torque converter.

Note: When torque converter is removed, transmission oil flows out. Remove torque converter.

Installation:





When installing, avoid damaging radial seal and bearing.
Slide torque converter up to first detent on transmission input shaft.
Press torque converter into converter bell housing and rotate until recess in torque converter hub engages in driver on impeller and the torque converter perceptibly slides inwards.
Approximately installation depth of torque converter = 25 mm: check with special tool 00 2 550.

Caution: If the torque converter is not correctly installed, driver on impeller is destroyed when transmission is connected to engine flange.
