Updated TCM/AGS Software for MY '99 & '00 540iA/iAT, 740iA/740iAL

SITUATION

-- Customer may complain of an occasional "hard" 3-2 downshift or "clunk" when slowing.

-- Customer may complain of an occasional harsh downshift at freeway speed.

CAUSE

TCM/AGS calibration

CORRECTION

On a customer complaint basis, reprogram the TCM/AGS with CD 27.0 or higher.

PROCEDURE

1. Check the TCM/AGS identification screen to obtain the "software number".

2. No programming is necessary if the software number is "1719".

An automatic determination, to identify the control module version, can be used to reprogram the TCM/AGS in a '99 or '00 MY 540iA/iAT or 740iA/iAL. A battery charger should be used when reprogramming.

3. Select:

-- AGS/EGS programming

-- Exchange control unit

-- Determine basic control unit

-- "Is faulty control unit installed in car?"... select "Yes"

-- Enter VIN

-- Program basic control unit (takes approximately 15 minutes)

-- Clear adaptation values

-- Verify correct program version by checking TCM/AGS ID screen again:
