Removing and Installing Left Cylinder Head
REMOVING LEFT CYLINDER HEAD- Remove top section of timing case, Removing Top Section of Timing Case.
- Remove splash guard.
- Remove left and right heat baffle plates from front axle support.
- Unfasten drain plug for coolant on left engine block.
- Drain off coolant and dispose of correctly.
Installation Note:
- Replace sealing ring, torque drain plug to 28 ± 2 Nm (21 ± 1.5 ft lb).
- Top up coolant.
- Bleed cooling system and check for water leaks.
- Remove spark plugs, Removing Spark Plugs.
- Remove coolant manifold, Removing Coolant Manifold.
- Remove plug connections (1 and 2)
- Unfasten cable tie (1) and disconnect hose clip (2).
- Remove hose.
- Pull heating valve out of bracket and remove complete unit.
- Remove exhaust pipes, Removing Exhaust Pipes.
- Unfasten cylinder head screws from outside to inside in sequence 14 to 1.
- Remove cylinder head.
- Remove cylinder head gasket.
INSTALLING LEFT CYLINDER HEAD
- Clean sealing faces of cylinder head and engine block, if necessary using wooden scraper to remove gasket debris.
- Ensure that no gasket debris drops into the oil and coolant ducts.
- Threaded bores in engine block must be free of dirt and oil. (Risk of cracking).
Installation Note:
- Fit new cylinder head gasket.
- Fit new cylinder head screws.
Torque:
- Step 1: 30 Nm (21.5 ft. lbs.).
- Step 2: Torque angle 120° with Special Tool 11 21 10.
NOTE: For hex head bolt, wait 15 minutes for settling. Tighten cylinder head screws working outwards from inside edge in sequence 1 to 14.
