Ignition Cable: Testing and Inspection

Component Locations:

1. Carefully remove the ignition wire assembly from the distributor cap. Check for cracks, or burns on the ignition wire assembly.

NOTE: All ignition wires are identified by reference numbers printed near the distributor cap.

Ignition Wire Test:

CAUTION: Do not attempt to disconnect the ignition wires from the 90° suppression connectors at the distributor cap or the spark plug connectors.

2. Remove the spark plug connectors from the spark plugs.
3. With an ohmmeter test the resistance of each ignition wire including connectors.

^ Resistance of each ignition wire including the 90° suppression connector and suppression spark plug connector should be 6 K ohms (±20%).

^ If the readings are not within specifications replace as necessary.
NOTE: Check with your parts supplier on the availability of individual wires or sets. If BMW special tools are not available do not attempt to replace spark plug connectors or 90°connectors.
