Trunk Lid Monitoring (with Alpine Alarm) Is Inoperative

MODELS:
75OiL (E32) - Vehicles produced 7/91-8/91

Situation:
Some 75OiL vehicles (produced 7/91-8/91) may have an incorrect connection in the 12-pin factory installed connector (Xl3025) for the Alpine Alarm Harness. This incorrect connection will prevent the alarm from monitoring the trunk lid.

Correction:
if a complaint is received of the alarm not sounding when the trunk is opened, check the voltage at Pin 11 or Xl 3025 (red/white). The voltage should be:

< 1 volt with trunk lid open battery voltage with trunk lid closed if battery voltage is present at Pin 11 of Xl3025 with the trunk lid open, the wiring is incorrect. In this case, proceed as follows:





1) Refer to the illustration . Locate the white/brown/yellow wire which is in the harness that passes through the bulkhead into the engine compartment. The access hole is to the left of the steering column, with a large ground terminal to its right. The white/brown/yellow wire in this harness goes to Pin 21 of connector Xl3.


2) The alarm harness has three wires exding the same location, approximately two feet from the black 12-pin connector. These wires consist of:

- Blue wire wdh female connector and silver foil tag

- Brown wire with female connector and silver foil tag

- Blue wire with male connector and no silver foil tag

The two wires with silver foil tags should be insulated with electrical tape and taped back to the harness. Do not connect these two wires to any other circuit or to each other.

Cut the male connector off the remaining blue wire.

Using a 3M connector, connect this blue wire to the white/brown/yellow wire that was identified in step 1 of this procedure. The monitoring of the trunk lid will now be correct.
