SUBJECT: Distributor Rotor
MODELS: M3 (prior to 5/87 production)
Complaint: Engine misfires.
Correction: Replace distributor rotor.
Procedure: When a car (produced prior to 5/87) is in your Workshop, check if there is a green dot on the tube for the secondary ignition cables.
If YES, do not proceed any further.
IF NO, proceed as follows:
^ Install a rotor with the same part number (12 11 1 309 798), but marked with a green dot. (NOTE: Only green marked distributor rotors are available from your Parts Distribution Center).
^ Check the distributor cap for cracks, wear and damages. If necessary, clean or replace it.
^ Check the secondary ignition cables for a tight fit in the distributor cap.
^ Mark the tube for the secondary ignition cables with a green dot as shown on the picture.
