MODELS
AFFECTED: 535i, 635CSi, 735i 1986 Models
Complaint: Transmission locks into 3rd gear when the headlights are turned on. When the headlights are off transmission shifts properly.
Problem: Improper range display panel installed the instrument cluster. The proper panel P/N 62 11 1 373 099 has 9 bulbs versus 7 for non EH-equipped car.
Diagnositic
Hint: Installation of the improper panel can be verified without removal of the instrument panel. With the key in the "on" position and the function selector in 3-2-1 position, both the Automatic Transmission "A" and the 3-2-1 displays in the instrument cluster should be illuminated. If they do not the improper range display panel has been installed.
Warranty
Status: Reimburseable for required parts and labor under the provisions of the Normal BMW Limited Warranty.
