Timing Chain: Service and Repair



REMOVAL
NOTE:Prior to disconnecting fuel lines, disconnect master relay and carefully depressurize fuel system.









1. Remove cylinder head cover.


2. Remove upper and lower timing case covers.

3. Set No. 1 piston at TDC position.

4. Remove sprocket.
CAUTION:Never crank engine after removing chain, as bent valves may result.

5. Remove chain from lower sprocket and swing chain and guide it out of the guide rail carefully.

INSTALLATION





1. After installing sprocket and chain, ensure dowel pin is at 7:30 position and sprocket bolts are perpendicular to cylinder head flange.

2. After replacing chain, reverse procedures.
