Information: The following corrections have been noted in the Owner's Handbook for the 528e, 535i, and 524td. The corrections will be listed by page number with an appropriate statement.

1. The opening statement on the the flyleaf i.e. "Warning: Use unleaded gasoline only." applies to gasoline engines only and does not apply to the 524td.

2. Page 1-09: #5 On-board computer is not installed on the 524td.

3. Page 1-10: #8 Anti-lock Brake system telltale applies to 535i only.

4. Page 1-14: Engine oil quantity as listed for the 524td is incorrect. It should read as follows:

4.8 US quarts/4.55 liters/8 Imperial pints

+ 1.3 US quarts/1-2 liters/2.1 Imperial pints if filter is changed

5. Page 1-15: The valve clearances BMW 535i: 524td/528e are confusing as listed. They should read as follows:

With engine cold, inlet and exhaust valve clearances should be 0.012 inches or 0.30 mm for the 535i and 524td. The clearances for the 528e should be 0.010 inches or 0.25 mm.

6. Page 2-10: The picture shown for the washer fluid tank applies to the 528e and 535i, not the 524td. The washer fluid tank is located under the battery on the driver's side, front of the engine compartment on the 524td.

7. Page 2-12: #8 Anti-lock Brake System telltale applies to 535i only.

8. Page 2-13: The fuel consumption indicator is not installed on the 524td.

9. Page 4-11: The total oil content BMW 524td as listed is incorrect. Refer to item 4 above for an appropriate reading.
10. Page 4-11: The oil viscosity/temperature chart lists recommended viscosity for both Diesel (darker bars) and gasoline (lighter bars) engines. Oil viscosity for 524td should be taken from the darker bars only.

Note: As the temperature ranges of the different oil viscosities overlap, brief variations in outside temperatures are no cause for concern.

In addition: SAE 20W-40 and 20W-50 oils are good above 30~C/86~F SAE 15W-40 and 15W-50 oils are good above 30~C/86~F SAE 40 oil is good above 30~C/86~F SAE 5W-20 and 5W-30 oils are good below -30~C/-22~F Refer to S.I. 00 01 85 (967) for details.
