12 12 071 REPLACING SPARK PLUG CONNECTOR (Snap-In Type)

Cut off secondary ignition cable from defective spark plug connector.

Strip off ignition cable insulation to a length of 6 mm (1/4 inch).

CAUTION:
If any wire strands are cut when stripping off insulation, cable end will NOT crimp properly.

Slide cable end (part number 12 12 1 705 656) onto ignition cable.

Place in Special Tool 88 88 6 121 091 (crimping device). Close crimping jaws by turning bolt.

Release jaws and take out cable with crimped end.

NOTE:
CHECK QUALITY OF EACH CRIMP BY ATTEMPTING TO PULL APART BEFORE ASSEMBLING INTO CONNECTOR.

Spray a thin coat of lubricant (part number 88 88 6 121 098) on guide sleeve of Special Tool 88 88 6 121 092 (pliers).

Loosen set screw (1). Slide in ignition cable against shoulder (arrow). Squeeze pliers and slide cable into connector until cable end is heard to engage.

CAUTION:
When using pliers, only clamp on the ignition cable, not the metal cable end.

Tighten set screw (1) against stop and pull out pliers (arrow shows cutaway view of assembly).

CAUTION:
Don't open pliers too wide: it is possible to split connector end.
