Voice Control System, Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794)

The voice control system is part of the information electronics control module 1 inside the instrument panel. It cannot be replaced alone.

If it is faulty, then the information electronics control module 1 must be replaced.

- Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

- If the control module is replaced, select the "Replacement" function for the appropriate control module the in "Guided Fault-Finding" routine.

Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester to do so.

Removing

- Remove the information electronics control module 1. Refer to => [ Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794) ] Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794).

Installing

- Install the information electronics control module 1. Refer to => [ Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794) ] Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794).

Perform the following function test:

- Turn on the radio (R).

- Briefly press the PTT button on the multifunction steering wheel.

A "Ping" tone sounds, the speech input system is active.

- Say "Help".

Since the radio is active, the speech dialog system responds with "Commands for the radio are...".

Depending on the equipment, other functions can be selected:

- If a telephone is installed, say "telephone".

The speech dialog system switches to the telephone mode.

- Press and hold the PPT button for approximately 1 second.

The speech dialog system responds with "Cancel" and is deactivated.
