Refrigerant Tube with Inner Heater Exchanger

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine Bung Set (VAS 6122)

Removal

- Drain the refrigerant circuit.

- Remove the tower brace.

- Remove the plenum chamber bulkhead.

In vehicles in which the coolant hose is guided through the plenum chamber bulkhead, only the plenum chamber bulkhead is detached.

- Release the retainer - arrows A - and remove the line pass-through - 1 - upward - arrow B -.






- Remove the refrigerant lines from the refrigerant tube with inner heat exchanger. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Lines at Inner Heat Exchanger, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Refrigerant Lines at Inner Heat Exchanger, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Expose the inner heat exchanger - 1 - at the bracket by releasing the clip - 5 - - arrow - and open it.






- Remove the bolts - 3, 4 -.

- Remove the refrigerant tube - 2 - with the inner heat exchanger from the expansion valve.

- Seal open lines and connections with a clean plug from the (VAS 6122).

- Remove the refrigerant tube - 1 - with the inner heat exchanger toward the front as shown in the figure.






- In vehicles with a coolant hose through the plenum chamber bulkhead, press the plenum chamber bulkhead - 2 - toward the engine.

- Rotate the refrigerant tube with inner heater core under the brake booster - 3 -.

Installation






Installation is done is reverse order, observe the following:

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Refrigerant Lines, Condenser, Expansion Valve, A/C Compressor Overview ] Refrigerant Lines, Condenser, Expansion Valve, A/C Compressor Overview.

- Replace the O-ring seals; version. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

- Clean the connections at the expansion valve - B - and at the inner heat exchanger - D - and check for damage.

- Thoroughly clean the refrigerant lines around the connection area and check for damage.

- Insert the O-ring seals - A, C - into the groove on the inner heat exchanger connection.

Coat the O-ring seals lightly with refrigerant oil prior to installation. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-rings ] Refrigerant Circuit O-Rings.

Check the O-ring seals for proper seating in the groove - arrow - of the respective refrigerant line.

Following attachment, check routing of refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in holders provided and not make contact with other components.

- Install the inner heat exchanger at the expansion valve.

- Tighten the screws - E -.

- Install the refrigerant lines at the inner heat exchanger, refer to => [ Refrigerant Lines at Inner Heat Exchanger, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Refrigerant Lines at Inner Heat Exchanger, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Install the plenum chamber bulkhead, suspension, and the tower brace.

- Evacuate and fill the refrigerant circuit.

- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit. Refer to => [ A/C System, Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] A/C System, Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit.

After completion of the repair work, perform the following work on the control head using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function:

- Query the event memory and erase any displayed entries.
