Input Shaft Seal






Input Shaft Seal

The input shaft seal may be leaking if ATF is leaking from underneath the transmission bell housing.

Input shaft seal must be replaced if leaking.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Seal Ring Extractor (T40014)

Thrust Piece for Final Drive at Transmission (T40167)

Procedure

Transmission removed.

Refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.

Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

- Remove the dual mass flywheel. Refer to => [ Dual Mass Flywheel ] 0AW Continuously Variable Transmission.

- Rotate the (T40014) by hand into the shaft seal until the tool has a good hold in the shaft seal. Then tighten puller with an open-end wrench.






The illustration shows a different transmission.

- You can pull out the shaft seal a short distance by screwing in rear bolt of puller.

- Tighten the (T40014) so that it engages securely in the shaft seal and continue tightening shaft seal by installing bolt.

- Repeat the process until the shaft seal is removed completely.

Input shaft must be installed in order to install the shaft seal.

- Coat the new shaft seal - A - with ATF.






- Install the sealing ring on the input shaft being careful not to touch the splines on the shaft.

Installed position: Open side of shaft seal faces transmission.

The shaft seal can be damaged if it touches the input shaft splines.

Slide shaft seal as far as possible into cover so that it cannot bend when driving in.

- Mount the sealing ring with the (T40167) all the way without bending it.






- Install the dual mass flywheel. Refer to => [ Dual Mass Flywheel ] 0AW Continuously Variable Transmission.

- Check the ATF level and correct if necessary after installing the transmission.
