Engine and Transmission, Separating

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Socket (T40058)

Support Set (VAS 6131/10) , Supplementary Set (VAS 6131/12) and (VAS 6131/13)

M10 x 65 bolt

Procedure

Engine/transmission assembly removed and placed on scissor lift table (VAS 6131 A).

- Disconnect and remove the connectors from the bracket and free up the wires.






3 For heated oxygen sensor (HOS) 2 (G108)
4 For oxygen sensor (OS) 2 after catalytic converter (G131)

Ignore - 1 and 2 -.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - and the left catalytic converter.






- Disconnect the connector - 2 - for the transmission mount valve 2 (N263) and remove it from the bracket.






Ignore - 1 and 3 -.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the heat shield - 1 -.






- Remove the bolt - 1 - from the bracket for the hydraulic line.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and then remove the left transmission mount and transmission support.

Place a cloth below to catch the draining ATF.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and then remove the ATF line - 1 - from the transmission.

- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the engine bung set (VAS 6122).

Risk of destroying transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

- Touch the transmission housing (when not wearing gloves) to discharge the static electricity.

- Disconnect electrical connector on transmission by rotating twist lock counter-clockwise - arrow -.






- Free up the wiring harness on the transmission.

- Remove the coolant hose; to do so, loosen the hose clamp - 2 -.






Ignore - 1 -.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - and free up the wire.






- Remove the coolant hose; to do so, loosen the hose clamp - 3 -.

Ignore - 2 - and - arrows -.

- Remove the connectors from the bracket, disconnect them and then free up the wires.






1 For oxygen sensor (OS) after three way catalytic converter (TWC) (G130)
2 For heated oxygen sensor (HOS) (G39)

Ignore - 3 and 4 -.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - and remove the right catalytic converter.






- Loosen the clamps - arrows -, remove the bolts - 1 and 2 - and then remove the right coolant pipe on the transmission from the coolant hoses.






- Remove the electrical connector - 1 - from the bracket and disconnect it.






Ignore - 2 -.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the heat shield - 1 -.






- Remove the bolt - 2 - and then remove the transmission mount from the transmission support.

- Disconnect the connector - 2 - from the engine speed sensor (G28) and free up the wires on the transmission.






Ignore - 1 -.

Place a cloth below to catch the draining ATF.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and then tie up the ATF cooler - 1 - to the side with the hoses - 2 and 3 - still connected.






- Remove the let and right drive axles from the transmission flange shaft.

- Remove the bottom cover - 1 - from the transmission - arrow -.






- Insert the (T40058) guide pins as follows:






The large diameter - arrow 1 - faces the engine.

Small diameter - arrow 2 - points to adapter.

- To loosen the torque converter bolts, counterhold the crankshaft using the (T40058).






Only turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation - arrow -.

- Remove the 6 torque converter bolts - arrow - by turning the crankshaft 60° in the direction of engine rotation.






- Equip the scissor lift platform (VAS 6131 A) with the support set (VAS 6131/10) , adapter set (VAS 6131/12) and (VAS 6131/13) as follows:






The other attachments remain unchanged.






- Connect the right front joint support (VAS 6131/13-7) to the engine using the MD bolt in threaded hole as shown in the illustration.






- Install the (VAS 6131/13-7) on the scissor lift table and tighten it to 20 Nm.

- Mount the support elements from (VAS 6131/10) and (VAS 6131/12) on the left side of the transmission as illustrated.






- Mount the support elements from (VAS 6131/10) and (VAS 6131/12) on the right side of the transmission mount as illustrated.






- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

- Attach mounting element base plates to (VAS 6131 A) and tighten to 20 Nm.

- Remove the starter bolts - 1 - and - 2 -.






- Press the starter off the transmission and leave it in the installation position.

- Remove the remaining bolts - 3 through 11 - connecting the engine to the transmission.

Ignore - A -.

- Loosen clamping bolts - 1 - on sides of (VAS 6131 A) and pull rear table plate with transmission toward the rear - arrow -.
