Oxygen Sensors

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Ring Spanner 7-Piece Set (3337)

Removing

- Install the protective body covers. Refer to => [ Protective Body Covers, Installing ] Procedures.

- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to R8 Coupe => [ Air Filter Housing ] Air Filter Housing.

- R8 Spyder: Remove the service flap.

Heated Oxygen Sensor (G39) before Catalytic Converter and Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter (G130) Cylinder Bank 1 (right):





- Remove the electrical connectors from the bracket and disconnect:

1. For oxygen sensor after three way catalytic converter (G130)

2. For heated oxygen sensor (G39)

- Free up the wires to the oxygen sensors.

- Remove the heated oxygen sensor - 2 - using a tool from the (3337).





- Remove the heated oxygen sensor after three way catalytic converter - 1 - using a tool from the (3337).

Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (G108) before Catalytic Converter and Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter (G131) Cylinder Bank 2 (left)





- Remove the electrical connectors from the bracket and disconnect:

1. For oxygen sensor 2 after catalytic converter (G131)

2. For Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (G108)

- Free up the wires to the oxygen sensors.

- Remove the engine compartment crossmember.

• The installation location is shown with the engine removed.

- Remove the heated oxygen sensor 2 - 1 - using a tool from the (3337).





- Remove the oxygen sensor 2 after catalytic converter - 2 - using a tool from the (3337).

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Oxygen Sensors Assembly Overview ] Oxygen Sensors Assembly Overview.

• New oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body.

• For a used oxygen sensor, only coat threads with hot bolt paste. This paste must not come into contact with oxygen sensor slots.

• Wiring connection of oxygen sensor must always be secured in the same position when installing so that contact with the exhaust pipe is avoided.

- Install the engine compartment crossmember.

- R8 Spyder: Install the service flap.

- Install the air filter housing. Refer to R8 Coupe => [ Air Filter Housing ] Air Filter Housing.
