A/C Unit and Refrigerant Lines
Removing
- Discharge refrigerant circuit.
- Remove A/C unit, refer to => [ A/C Unit ] Removal and Replacement.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Remove the intermediate piece - A -.
• Disregard - item B -.
- Remove the bolts - B and D -.
- Remove the refrigerant line brackets - A and C -.
- Remove the heat insulation - B and C - on the refrigerant line connection.
• The heat insulation cannot be removed without being destroyed.
- Remove the bolts - D and E -.
- Remove the refrigerant line - F - on the connecting flange for refrigerant line - A - to the A/C unit.
- Remove the refrigerant line - A - from the A/C unit connecting flange.
• Seal open connections on the refrigerant lines/A/C unit with suitable sealing caps (to prevent dirt and moisture from entering).
Installing
Installation is done in reverse order, observe the following:
- Replace the O-rings - C -.
• Coat the O-ring with refrigerant oil before installing. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-Rings ] Refrigerant Circuit O-Rings.
• Make sure the O-ring seals - H - (different versions) are seated correctly in the groove - arrow - on the respective refrigerant line.
- Check the connections - G - for the refrigerant line - A - and the evaporator - B - for damage and ensure they are seated correctly.
- Insert the O-ring seal in the groove - arrow - on the connection for the refrigerant line - A - and the evaporator - B -.
- Install the refrigerant lines - A and J - without tension.
- Tighten the bolts - D and F -.
• Tightening specification: 9 Nm
- Install new heat insulation - E - around both refrigerant line connections.
- Install the brackets - A and C - on the refrigerant lines.
- Tighten the bolts - B and D -.
- Evacuate and fill refrigerant circuit.
- Check the refrigerant line connection points for leaks, e.g. using an electronic leak detector.
- Install the A/C unit, refer to => [ A/C Unit ] Removal and Replacement.
After finishing the repairs, perform the following work on the Climatronic Control Module (J255) using the Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051/ in the "Guided Fault Finding" function:
- Check the DTC memory and erase any malfunctions shown.
- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit, refer to => [ Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning.
• Note the information regarding operating the A/C system after filling.
