Engine and Transmission, Separating

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Support Set (VAS 6131/10), Supplementary Set (VAS 6131/12) and (VAS 6131/13)

Assembly Tool (T10118)

Procedure

Engine/transmission assembly removed and placed on Scissor Lift Table (VAS 6131 A).

During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.

- Remove the banjo fitting - 2 - on the power steering pump and then remove the hydraulic fluid line.





- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the (VAS 6122).

Ignore - 1 - and - arrows -.

- Disconnect the electrical connector - 2 - on the engine speed sensor (G28).





Ignore - 1 -.

- Remove the connector - 4 - from the starter solenoid switch.





- Remove the battery positive wire protective cap.

- Remove the nut - 2 - and then remove and B+ wire from the starter solenoid and free it up.

Ignore - 1 and 3 -.

Vehicles with Manual Transmission:

- Disconnect the - arrow - back-up lamp switch (F4) connector and free up the wire.





Vehicles with R tronic:

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and the heat shield - arrow -.





CAUTION!
There is a risk of mixing up the electrical connectors.

The electrical connectors on the gear selection valves and on the hydraulic pressure sensor (G270) are marked with colors to prevent them from getting mixed up. If the colored markings are no longer visible, mark the electrical connectors before disconnecting.

- Disconnect the connectors - 1 through 6 - and free them up.





Disregard - arrow -.

- Remove the ground (GND) connection - arrow - on the top of the hydraulic unit bracket.





- Disconnect the connectors - 1 through 4 - and free them up.





- Free up the transmission wiring harness and place it on the engine.

- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove heat shield.





All Vehicles:

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and then remove the exhaust manifold bracket with the right catalytic converter.





- Remove the bolt - arrow - on the exhaust manifold bracket with catalytic converter.





Prepare Scissor Lift Platform:





- Equip the scissor lift platform (VAS 6131 A) with the support set for Audi (VAS 6131/10), adapter set (VAS 6131/12) and (VAS 6131/13) as follows:





- Attach mounting elements from the (VAS 6131/10) and (VAS 6131/12) at the left of the engine as shown in the illustration.





- Attach mounting elements from the (VAS 6131/10) and (VAS 6131/12) at the right of the engine as shown in the illustration.





- Rotate mounting element spindles upward until all mounting pins come in contact with mounting points.

- Attach mounting elements from (VAS 6131/10) and (VAS 6131/13) at front of transmission as shown in illustration.





- Turn the mounting element spindle up until the mounting plate comes into contact with the mounting point.

- Attach mounting element base plates to (VAS 6131 A) and tighten to 20 Nm.

- Free up the hydraulic fluid line - arrow - and pull it to the side.





- Remove the remaining bolts - 2 through 6 - from the engine to transmission connection.





- Loosen clamping bolts - 1 - on sides of (VAS 6131 A) and pull rear table plate with transmission toward rear - arrow -.
