Front Final Drive Cover






Front Final Drive Cover

Removing

General Repair Instructions, refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.

Automatic transmission clean working conditions, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

- Remove the left flange shaft. Refer to => [ Left Flange Shaft ] Left Flange Shaft.

- Remove the old circlip from the groove in the flange shaft using the new circlip - A -.


Make sure the right flange shaft is installed before removing front final drive cover. Otherwise differential can fall out of transmission housing.

- Tighten bolts on front final drive cover in sequence - 11 to 1 -.






Slowly and carefully remove front final driver cover from transmission housing. Otherwise differential can fall out of transmission.

A differential that has fallen out can no longer be installed. If differential falls out, transmission must be replaced.

Make sure the differential bearing race and adjustment shims do not fall out of the transmission housing and front final drive cover.

Bearing races and adjustments that have fallen out cannot be allocated with shop equipment.

- Secure differential - arrow - against falling out.





Installing

- Make sure the magnet - arrow - under plastic cover in front final drive cover is installed.





- Replace O-ring - 1 - in front final drive cover.





- Check cover for secure seating - 2 -.

- Check differential - arrow - for correct seating in transmission.





- Position front final drive cover on transmission housing.





- Replace all bolts on front final drive cover.

- If present, install shield - B - between final drive cover and bolt - 1 -.

The shield - B - should protect the bleeder hole - arrow A - from dirt and water.

Tightening sequence:






The 3 bolts with spacer washers are inserted in the places marked with the - arrows -.

Use original bolts.

Transmissions, not equipped with spacer washers, only have bolts without a spacer washer installed at the locations marked with - arrows -.

- Tighten bolts on front final drive cover in 2 stages in sequence shown as follows:

- Stage: Hand-tighten bolts in sequence - 1 to 11 -.

- Stage: Tighten bolts in sequence - 1 to 11 - in several stages to tightening specification.

- Check left flange shaft seal, replace if necessary. Refer to => [ Left Flange Shaft Seal ] Left Flange Shaft Seal

- Install the left flange shaft. Refer to => [ Left Flange Shaft ] Left Flange Shaft.

- Fill with gear oil and then check the oil level in the front final drive.


There is a risk of damaging the transmission.

The multitronic 01J transmission require different axle oil depending on the version. Only axle oil for Multitronic which can be obtained as a replacement part must be used in front final drive.
