Left Flange Shaft






Left Flange Shaft

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782)

Puller (T10037)

Removing

Transmission removed.

- Place the used oil collection and extraction device (VAG 1782) under the transmission.

- Remove bolts - arrows - for the left flange shaft plate.





- Tighten puller (T10037) on the differential cover - arrow -.





- Pull the left flange shaft out using puller (T10037) only far enough until the bearing on the shaft is pulled out of the transmission housing.

- Pull the flange shaft - A - out of the transmission while holding the shaft centered on the differential opening - arrow -.





If you do not keep the shaft centered, the splines of the shaft will fall against the inner shaft seal between the final drive and transmission housing. The shaft seal will be damaged and will have to be replaced. Refer to => [ Final Drive/Transmission Housing Shaft Seal ] Final Drive/Transmission Housing Shaft Seal.

Installing

Tightening specifications. Refer to => [ Front Final Drive Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation.

Install in the reverse sequence; note the following points:

- Clean the flange shaft.

- Insert the flange shaft - A - into the transmission and guide the shaft into the seal of the differential - arrow -, keeping the shaft centered.





If the shaft is not held centered, the shaft teeth may damage the sealing ring between the final drive and transmission housing. The shaft seal must then be replaced. Refer to => [ Final Drive/Transmission Housing Shaft Seal ] Final Drive/Transmission Housing Shaft Seal.
