Driver and Front Passenger Side Airbag Igniter from 05.2007

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• torque wrench (V.A.G 1410)

• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B)

• Engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095)

• Fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136)

CAUTION!

1 Clip

• Wire to the side airbag

2 Electrical Wiring

• To the side airbag

3 Side Fastening Strip

4 Side Airbag on the Driver/Passenger Side

• Removing

- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap.

- Remove the seat. Refer to => [ Power Front Memory Seat ] Power Front Memory Seats.

- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136).

- Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover ] Power Front Memory Seats.

- Pry off lower fastening strips - 8 - (quantity: 3) with a screwdriver.

- Pry off side retainer strips - 3 - with a screwdriver and fold cover forward.

- Free up the side airbag wire from the corrugated tube

- Remove the screw - 6 -.

- Press side airbag - 4 - upward and remove it.

• Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Be sure to note the following:

- Pull the cloth strap toward the rear. Refer to => [ Pulling the side air bag cloth strap ].

- Cover the slits in the cloth strap with the backrest frame. Refer to => [ Cover the slits in the cloth strap with the
backrest frame. ].

- Engage the side airbag - 4 - in the side airbag. Refer to => [ Engaging the side airbag in the backrest frame ] and attach both hooks underneath.

- Attach the cloth strap to the backrest frame using the clamping strip - 5 -.

- Replace screw - 6 -.

- Bolt side airbag - 4 - on with bolt - 6 -.

- Make sure the airbag cable - 2 - runs through the opening in the backrest frame and is secured with the clip - 1 - as illustrated.

- Switch on ignition.

CAUTION!
No one should be in the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect battery ground strap.

- Follow measures after connecting battery.

• If the airbag malfunction indicator lamp (K75) indicates a malfunction after assembly, check the DTC memory with the (VAS 5051B), clear it, and check it again.

5 Cloth Strap

• For side airbag

• With the clamping strip

6 Bolt

• Tightening specification 10 Nm

• Replace after each disassembly

7 Front Seat

8 Lower Fastening Strips

Pulling the side air bag cloth strap





- Pull the cloth strap - 2 - for the side airbag through the opening in the cushion - 1 - - arrows -.

Cover the slits in the cloth strap with the backrest frame.





- Cover the slits - arrows A - in the cloth strap - 1 - with the oblong holes - arrows B - in the backrest frame.

Engaging the side airbag in the backrest frame





- Engage the side airbag - 1 - through the slits in the cloth strap into the oblong holes on the backrest frame - arrows -.
