Technical Background
On Audi S5 vehicles manufactured within a specific period it is possible that, due to the routing of one of the ground wires, water can enter the sheathing (corrugated tube) of the ground wire and then get into the wiring harness.
Production Solution
Service
1. Remove front noise insulation (Figure 1, 1).
2. Check ground point on longitudinal member (on the right side, to the outside rear of the alternator) depending on the configuration of the ground wire as described below.
Version A: Ground wire (Figure 2, 2) runs horizontally to ground point (Figure 2, 1).
No further steps are required.
Version B: Ground wire (Figure 3, 2) runs vertically to ground point (Figure 3, 1) and is not sheathed with a corrugated tube.
No further steps are required.
Version C: Ground wire (Figure 4, 2) runs vertically to ground point (Figure 4, 1) and is sheathed with a corrugated tube.
Remove corrugated tube from ground wire (Figure 4, 2):
1. Unscrew the ground point.
2. Pull the corrugated tube off the ground wire until you can cut through the sheathing with side cutters.
3. Tear the sheathing open and discard the section of corrugated tube.
4. Secure the ground wire to the other wires using a zip tie.
5. Reattach the ground point.
